Hokah man faces six
felony drug charges

Matthew Joseph Sheehan, 27, of 90 Falls Street, Hokah, was charged with six felony counts in Houston County District Court Friday, April 13, following a raid on the Hokah residence on April 12. Numerous items were recovered at the residence and taken as evidence.

Members of the Houston County Sheriffís Department and Hokah Police Department found there was evidence of a marijuana growing operation, as well as evidence believed to indicate the production of illegal mushrooms.

Over 60 marijuana plants, heat lamps, a fan, thermostat, and a timer apparently used in the cultivation of the marijuana plants, along with the small scale, box of Ziplock baggies and Zigzag rolling papers were confiscated from the Hokah residence.

In a safe in the residence, law endorsement officers recovered eight one-half-ounce bags of marijuana along with bowls containing $40 cash and marijuana buds.. Officers also recovered 16 mushroom spores found in glass jars with planting material.

Subsequent NIK tests on a sample of the suspected marijuana seized from the residence tested positive for THC. Investigators also compared images of known psilocybin mushrooms with the mushrooms seized from the defendantís residence. Those seized appeared to be psilocybin mushrooms.

Sheehan is currently being held at the Houston County Jail pending bail, which was set at $40,000 unconditional, and $20,000 conditional bail. Sheehanís next court appearance is scheduled for April 20.
