Edgar J. Wuennecke
Edgar J. Wuennecke, 78, of New Albin, Iowa, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Thornton Manor, Lansing, Iowa.
He was born October 14, 1928 in New Albin, Iowa to John and Ella (Wiemerslage) Wuennecke. Edgar served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On October 1, 1955, he married Shirley Meyer at St. Peterís Church in New Albin. Together they owned and operated the City Meat Market in New Albin from 1957. Edgar enjoyed camping, bowling, fishing, and playing cards with his family and friends. He was an active member of St. Peterís Church in New Albin and a member of the Kenneth Casey VFW Post #5603 of New Albin.
Survivors include his wife of over 51 years, Shirley; a daughter, Angie (David) Strong; and a son, Alan (Kelley) Wuennecke, all of New Albin; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Armin (Dorothy) Wuennecke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 20, at St. Peterís Church, New Albin. Rev. William J. Reese, Ph.D. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peterís Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the New Albin VFW Post #5603. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the New Albin Community Center and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.
