Business community grows, changes
By Jane Palen
Two new buildings in Caledonia represent both an expansion of the local business community and several changes as well.
West of the former elementary school, Travis Fishel of Houston is building a taxidermy shop which will have living quarters above. The 30 x 60 building will have steel, two-tone siding. The front of the building will be one story and the rear will be two story.
Fishel has worked as a taxidermist for about 16 years and does all kinds of mounts. His specialty is fish and game head shoulder mounts, but he does life-size mounts as well. He will be running the business himself.
The goal for opening is October 1, just in time for buck season, said Fishel. He said he likes the location because there will be plenty of parking for customers.
Vista Drive
On Vista Drive, a new building owned by George Kittleson and sons will be the new home for three existing businesses.
Shapes, a fitness center for women, has opened in one of the offices. It was previously located in the Caledonia Schoolhouse Mall. Shapes is now able to offer 24-hour access to its members.
Main Attractions, a beauty salon currently located at 137 East Main, will move this weekend to its new home on Vista Drive. The move will take place Saturday through Monday, and the salon will be open for business on Tuesday. The phone number will remain the same.
George Kittleson said that he expects a business office to move into the third space.
