Augusta Onstad Kunst

Augusta Onstad Kunst, 86 of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

She was born in Black Hammer Township, Houston County, to Otto and Belle (Gaustad) Onstad. She was raised in Spring Grove. On August 1, 1938 she married Al Kunst at St. Peterís Catholic Church, Caledonia.

Augusta was an owner of the Caledonia Dairy Service until 1953 when she and Al moved to Gulf Breeze, Fla. They proceeded to move thirteen times and lived in eight different cities. In 1965 they moved to Clear Lake, Iowa.

She was a member of St. Patrickís Catholic Church in Clear Lake and maintained her membership in the Caledonia Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by her husband Aloysius (Al) Kunst of Clear Lake; her children, David Kunst and his wife Jenni Samuel of Balboa, Calif.; Peter Kunst and his wife Nora Angel of College Station, Texas; seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and one brother Carlton and his wife Beulah Onstad of Spring Grove.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Borghild Onsgard; a brother-in-law, Hollis Onsgard; and her son John, who was murdered in Afghanistan while walking with his brother David.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m., Friday, August 17 at St. Maryís Catholic Church in Caledonia. Msgr. Donald Schmitz will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church Friday. Memorials may be directed to Augusta Kunst Memorial or to the donorís choice.

McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
