Caledonia/Spring Grove gymnastics coach Paul Stevens said that his team was excited about finally having the opportunity to perform during a meet. C/SG hosted La Crescent Tuesday, Dec. 4, and posted a team score of 112.425 to the Lancers' 127.875.

Stevens said that he was happy with the way things went for the first meet of the year. "We know we have a lot of work ahead of us, but we have the ability," said Stevens. "Samantha Wermager performed like a veteran. She is trying new things and still needs to clean things up, but she is one that could shine even brighter."

According to Stevens, vault was again the Warrior's strongest event, but they were able to win in the balance beam. "Again, that was thanks to the strong showings of Sam, Courtney Gran and Ally Sheehan," said Stevens. "Floor exercise was our weakest score; we really need to clean things up there." Stevens also said that bars is another area of concern that they have. "But, overall, the varsity girls understand what they need to do," he said. "Many new girls are doing their first varsity routines."

"The junior varsity girls also did fine," said Stevens. "La Crescent had a smaller team than usual, but for some of our girls it was their first meet ever. Skylar Schoh, Matison Scanlan, Jennifer DeWitt, and Chelsey Vickerman did well for this being their first time in a meet. We won't have another meet for a week, which will hopefully help us to improve our performances."

Samantha Wermager won third place overall with a total of 32.825 points. Kaley Cross took fifth with 29.450; Courtney Gran sixth with 29; and Emily Klug seventh with 22.75.
