Christmas is about caring, and sharing and the opening of one's heart--giving to those who are less fortunate.
This Christmas, you are invited to spend a portion of your day with Elsie and her staff at Elsie's Bar and Grill in downtown Caledonia.
The business will sponsor a "Community Christmas Day Dinner," complete with all of the trimmings.
The menu features turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, a roll and dessert.
The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and delivery will be available to within a five-mile radius.
"It's been done here for a few years now," said Elsie Vesterse, owner of Elsie's Bar and Grill. "We're trying to get it out further."
The Christmas Day event has benefitted from several local donations and four cooks will serve up the food. Several others have agreed to donate their time and talents to deliver the meals both within the restaurant and in the delivery capacity.
"Basically we didn't want anyone to be alone this Christmas," said Vesterse. "Christmas is a time of year for people to celebrate life. We definitely don't want to see any one unhappy."
So they are doing their part this holiday season to bring a little joy.
Any and all are invited to attend. In fact, Elsie hopes that they could double the amount served from last year and reach a total of 160 meals.
Normally the restaurant is open from 5:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Elsie's is located at 226 East Main St. in Caledonia and they can be reached at 725-3313.
