Calling all artists

On Sat. Jan. 12, 2008, the Caledonia Area Arts Council will host the Third Annul Family Arts Festival at the Caledonia High School.

"The mission," according to Caledonia Area Arts Council member Nancy Runningen, is to "foster an increased awareness of the fine arts in Houston County and the surrounding areas."

This being the third annual, the focus of this years event will be in the art of dancing.

There will be Folk Dance Workshops from 3-4 p.m. and from 5-6 p.m. with a Grand Concert being planned for 7-8:30 p.m. There will be a Clogging demonstration from 5-6 p.m.

The folk dancing workshop will be presented by Barb Dufresne of the Winona International Dancers. The workshop is for beginning or experienced dancers of all ages.

The Clogging demonstration will feature the LaCrosse Clog Jam.

The grand concert is expected to include the folk dancers and Cloggers as well as other performances.

The previous years' focus has been in the art of bell choirs and storytelling respectively.

At the festival, artists will set up in the commons area of the high school.

"Artists can sell their wares," said Runningen. "And there is no cost for an artist to participate."

Artists are invited to display, demonstrate and/or sell their art.

Artists still needed

"Though last year was a success, the one thing we heard from our public was their desire to see more artists on display," noted Runningen.
Therefore, the group hopes more area artists will lend their time and talents to this excellent cause.

If you are an artist and are interested in taking part in the event you are encouraged to contact Runningen at nancy_runningen@cps.k12.mn.us or call her at 725-5139.
