The Caledonia school board approved the teacher and support staff seniority lists on Monday night.

The lists, which had been reviewed by the staff, are for the 2007 school year.

Several instructors have been with the district since the 70's, and the highest name on the list (of teachers) began teaching at the district in 1968.

The most recent hires joined the district in 2006 and 2007.

Organizational meeting

The school board set a date of Jan. 7 at 7:00 p.m. for its organizational meeting. The meeting will take place in the elementary media center.

Reports

The principals at the school gave their principal reports to the board.

Of note was high school principal Ron Helmers informing the board about the positive outcome of the state championship football team.

He also informed the board of some upcoming training which he will be attending.

During superintendent Mike Moriarty's report, he informed the board of his desire to change the way in which athletic officials are reimbursed.

Currently, he noted, the school cuts the individual a check prior to his or her completing the officiating duties.

When an individual misses his or her time to officiate, and the check has already been cut for those services, it creates extra paperwork for district employees to complete such tasks as stopping payment on the check.

The board approved allowing for an amount to be determined by administration staff, but for the actual checks to be cut to the individual upon completion of the officiating duties.

A time line for the budget cycle was also discussed.

The budget should be ready to be presented to the board at its February meeting with action expected to come at the meeting in March.
