Caledonia/Spring Grove met a combined Byron/Lourdes gymnastic team on Thursday, Dec. 20, coming in with a score of 114.75 to Byron/Lourdes' 121.475.
The Warriors were missing all of the Spring Grove girls on Thursday because of a band and choir concert, so coach Paul Stevens said that they knew their scores might be a little lower than normal. "But assistant coach Jackie (Johnson) and I were a little disappointed in the scoring of some of our girls compared to how Byron's team was scored," said Stevens. "We felt that a few of our girls deserved higher scores. Miranda Moen did do very well on bars. She did not compete last week because of a fall off of beam in practice that has kept her out of the lineup.
"Courtney Gran and Samantha Wermager had excellent beam scores for us. So, we just need to put this meet behind us and concentrate on improving and doing a better job on our routines."
Caledonia/Spring Grove won on beam with a score of 30.25 to B/L's 28.35, garnering three of the top four scores. Gran took first with 8.55. Wermager took second place with 8.5, and Ally Sheehan won fourth with 7.350. Miranda Moen scored 5.850 and Emily Klug scored 5.05. In JV Rachel Mills scored 4.3 and Mariah Stone 3.5.
Caledonia scored 33.25 to B/L's 34.03 in vault. Wermager took second place with a 8.750, and Gran took fourth with 8.350. Sheehan scored 8.1 and Klug 8.05.
On bars, the Warriors scored 26.8 to Byron/Lourdes' 28.1. Wermager took third place with 7.9, and Miranda Moen took fifth with 6.450. Gran scored 6.3, Klug 6.150, and Skylar Schoh 5.6. In JV Mariah Stone scored 3.4.
On floor, Wermager took fourth with 7.6. Klug scored 6.650, Gran 6.6, and Allison Zard 3.6, for a total of 24.45 to B/L's 31. In JV Cheryl Kirchner scored 5, Mackenzie Moen 4.6, and Mariah Stone 4.2.
