August floods dominate 2007 news
The damage from the August 2007 floods was catastrophic, as this photo of the Junction Bar in Hokah illustrates. The 1,000-year event, which dumped over 18 inches of rain on some portions of Houston County in less than 24 hours, claimed the lives of seven persons and caused tens of millions of dollars in damage in Houston, Fillmore, and Winona counties. It was the worst natural disaster to hit the county in its 150-year history. It was certainly the number-one news story in the Caledonia Argus in 2007.
