Vincent Bauer
Vincent Joseph "VJ" Bauer, 83, of Caledonia, died at home on Tuesday, January 30, 2007.
Vince was born November 17, 1923 to Gerhard and Helen (Reining) Bauer in Adrian, MN. Vince moved from Adrian to Caledonia with his family at age 7. Vince attended rural school at Caledonia through 8th grade, at which time he stayed home to work on his Mom & Dadís farm.
On June 4, 1946 he married Rosine Stoltz at St. Peterís Catholic Church in Caledonia. He was an active member of St. Maryís Catholic Church.
The couple lived and farmed at various places in the Caledonia area.
Vinceís first passion was farming; he also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family, playing softball, woodworking, repairing childrenís toys, playing cards, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosine, and 13 children: Joe (Janice) of Fayetteville, NC; Tony (Ann), Linda (Dean) King, Larry "Bugman" (Bev), Bonnie (Glenn) Laumb, Karen "Beak" (Merrell "Cobb") Colsch, Susie (Curt) Goetzinger, Steve "Smiley" (Marcia), Cindy (Phil) Augedahl, Matt (Susan), David "Pollack" (Pam), Ann (Rob) Schmitz, and Jeanette (Mike) Buttell, all of the Caledonia area. He is also survived by 57 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Sister Vincianna Bauer of Rochester; Bernice Lange of Hokah; Vina Lange of Caledonia; Lawrence "Shorty" (Leota) of Caledonia; Rita (Lee) Svehaug of Caledonia; Gordy (Wanda) of Caledonia; John (Judy) of Durand, WI; Mary Mullen of Crystal Lake, IL; Millie (Art) of Waterford, MI; and Helen (Dave) Augedahl of Caledonia.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, a daughter-in-law, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Maryís Catholic Church in Caledonia with Fr. Gregory Leif officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2 from 4ñ8p.m. at St. Maryís Holy Family Hall with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Friends may also call at Holy Family Hall on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
McCormick Funeral Home of Caledonia is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials are preferred to St. Maryís School Library, Alzheimerís Association, or St. Maryís School Holy Family Hall Kitchen, or charity of your choice.
