Warrior boys basketball reduced Chatfield to quivering blood sausage on Feb. 22 in a bold display of hardcourt prowess.

Caledonia claimed a 64-52 win, lead by a strong showing from senior cager Alex Guillien. Guillien posted a double-double on the night with 28 points and 18 rebounds.

Guillien wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard after the opening tip. In the first half alone Guillien had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

"It was a great night for Alex," Warrior coach Josh Diersen said.

Also in double-digits for Caledonia was Zach Gran with 11 points. Gran also had eight assists on the night.

The Thursday night match-up was Senior Night, at which the team honored its four senior players in their final home game. The teamís seniors are Guillien, Derek Lager, Tyler Augedahl and Drew Hammell.

All four of the teamís seniors scored points in the contest against Chatfield. In addition to Guillienís team high 28, Lager posted five points, Augedahl had three points, and Hammell scored two.

Diersen said the game was a good way to close the regular season, giving the team some momentum heading into the opening round of section tournament play scheduled for later this week.

Section tourney starts Thursday

The Warriors drew the No. 2 seed in the section tournament and will square off against No. 7 seed Wabasha-Kellogg at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1 at St. Maryís in Winona.

In the two teamsí first encounter this year, Caledonia walked away with a 14-point victory. Diersen is optimistic about the Warriorsí chances in the second game against W-K.

"Weíve just gotta get to our posts early and push the tempo," Diersen said.

If Caledonia wins on Thursday, the team will play a second-round game at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 5 and will face the winner of the contest between La Crescent and Chatfield. La Crescent is the No. 3 seed; Chatfield is seeded sixth.

Winona Cotter is the top seed in the section tournament and faces No. 8 seed St. Charles in the first round. Fourth-seed Lewiston plays fifth-seed Plainview in opening round action.

Girlsí playoff game rescheduled

The first round of section tournament play for Warrior girlsí basketball was cancelled Saturday, owing to the snowstorm, and was played Monday, Feb. 26. Results will be printed in next weekís edition.
