Hendel, Werner join board of ISD # 299

Matt Hendel and Michelle Werner were sworn in as new Caledonia school board members at the boardís annual reorganizational meeting on January 8.

They were elected to four year positions last November, replacing Mary Frank and Chuck Schulte. Joyce Knutson was also elected to a two-year term. She was appointed to the board in April of 2006 to fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Mike Novak.

At last weekís meeting, Naomi Fruechte was elected board chairperson for 2007. Other officers are Charlie Wray, vice-chairman; Werner treasurer; and Barb Hurley clerk.

The boardís regular monthly meetings are held on the third Monday at 7 p.m. in the Caledonia Elementary School media center. Januaryís meeting will be held on January 22 (starting at 6 p.m.) due to Martin Luther King Day. The February 19 meeting will be held on February 26 due to Presidents Day.

Per diems will remain at $35 for regular, special and committee meetings. All-day meetings are $75.00 for a full day and $37.50 for half days. The mileage allowance went from 44.5 cents per mile to 48.5 cents or per the IRS guidelines.

School depositories stayed the same. The general fund is at Merchantís Bank, the secondary student activity account is at Bank of the West, and investments are at six different banks.

The Caledonia Argus remained the official newspaper.
