Local girls place first and second at national weightlifting championships

Maria Fruechte and Maddy Mullins placed first and second, respectively, in the 2007 National School Age Weightlifting Championships held June 29 - July 1 in Springfield, MO. Maria, the daughter of Carl and Becky Fruechte of Caledonia, placed first in the 40 kg class for girls 13 and under. Maddy, the daughter of Mitch and Nancy Mullins of Caledonia, placed second in the 40 kg class for girls 13 and under. The girls participated in Olympic style lifting, in both the snatch and clean and jerk divisions and set personal records in both. Maria was named the Best Lifter in all weight classes for girls 13 and under. Maddy went 6 for 6 in the lifting competition.
