Argus announces annual food drive

The Caledonia Argus is once again sponsoring a food drive July 16-27 to help stock the shelves of the local Semcac food shelf.

The food drive is held every year at every location of ECM Publishers. Inc., parent company of The Argus. The locations compete to collect the most food, with the winning location gaining additional funds to donate to the food shelf.

Last year, The Argus won in both categories of the competition. The office collected the equivalent of 6,381 lbs. of food, which was the most of any location, and also claimed the highest increase (141.9 percent) over the previous year.

This year, every dollar donated to the food drive will count as two pounds of food.

Quillinís in Caledonia is assisting in the food drive by offering bags of groceries, and will also host two cook-outs with proceeds benefitting the food shelf. Larry Salm is organizing that event for the second year in a row.

Donations of non-perishable food items or cash can be dropped off at The Argus July 16-27 during regular business hours. Also, donations will be collected at Music in the Park on July 17. That evening is a tribute to the late David Heiller, former news editor of The Argus.

The Community Action Council of ECM Publishers provides matching funds of up to $300.

The Semcac food shelf is located at 138 East Main.
