Gwendolyn Deters

Gwendolyn Chapel Deters was born December 2, 1918, in De Sota, Wisc., to Harriet Chapel Joseph and Henry Joseph.

Gwen lived with her maternal grandparents and graduated from Houston High School in 1936.

On June 7, 1939, Gwendolyn graduated from Winona Teachers College. She taught school for three years in Money Creek, Looney Valley, and Union Ridge.

She married Albert F. (Bert) Deters on June 7, 1941. Bert died in 1993.

Gwen was actively involved with the Trinity Lutheran Church, PTA, and Homemakers. She was a charter member of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild and was a volunteer at the Spring Grove Hospital and nursing home. With her husband, she was a founding member of Ma-Cal-Grove Country Club.

She is survived by her son, Howard (Mary), of Spring Grove; her daughter, Joan Patterson, of Port-au-Prince, Haiti; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spring Grove.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
