John "Joe" Hemmer
John "Joe" Hemmer, 87, of LaCrosse, formerly of Caledonia, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse.
He was born January 3, 1920 in Caledonia to John and Agnes (Elliot) Hemmer. Joe served his country during WWII in the US Army as a medic. He married Pauline Gulbranson July 6, 1944 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Caledonia.
Joe and Pauline owned and operated Caledonia Bakery for 41 years. Joe was a member of St Joseph the Workman Cathedral, LaCrosse, St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia, the Knights of Columbus, Caledonia American Legion Post 191 and the Houston County VFW.
He is survived by his wife Pauline; four children: John (Jennifer) Hemmer, Mary (Duan) Dixon, Fred (Dorothy) Hemmer, and Jane (Chris) Hall; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tom (Donna) Hemmer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday July 16 at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Michael J. Gorman will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call from 2 to 4:30 pm at Holy Family Hall, behind St. Maryís Church, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Friends may also call from 10 to 11 am Monday morning before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to The Disabled American Veterans.
