Rodney Bentley
Rodney Bentley, 74, a lifelong resident of Spring Grove, died June 9, 2007, after a year and a half courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Spring Grove. Rod graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1951 and attended the University of Minnesota. Rodney married his high school sweetheart, Norma Thorson, in 1953.
He was an auctioneer and realtor for over 30 years. In addition, he farmed, raised turkeys and owned Sugar Valley Strawberry Farm and Bentley Hardware Store in Spring Grove for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Bentley; his children, Cindy (Doug) Cable of Sparta, Wis., Michael (Peggy) Bentley of Lake Geneva, Wis., and Karen (Chuck) Hernandez of Sparta. Rod is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Hillman; and his brother, Hayward (Elvina) Bentley of Spring Grove; and six grandchildren.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lottie Bentley.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Interment of the cremains will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. before services Wednesday at the church. Pastor Stephanie Frey will officiate.
