To the 1200 people that signed our petition on the CJC
To the Editor:
All we were asking for was a chance to vote.
The County Commissioners have replied with a resounding "No Way."
You see, they get to decide which type of bonds to use for the project. A capital improvement bond would ensure that a referendum be held on the matter. The County Commissioners have openly stated on many occasions that they will not use this type of bond. OK. Thatís their choice.
But the really infuriating part of this is that the type of bond they plan to use has a higher interest rate. Isnít it good business practice to avoid paying more interest? Isnít that just common sense? I guess itís not important when you are spending someone elseís money.
Think about thisñaccording to the minutes of a commissionerís meeting, the cost of the structure (est. 16+million) is only 10-12% of the cost of the project over the next 20 years. That comes out to $160 million. Whoís going to pay for that?
