Kyle Welscher, a 2005 graduate of Caledonia Area High School, completed his two-year baseball career at Western Technical College of La Crosse with a trip to the national Junior College Athletic Association Division III Regional in Wilmar last month.

Welscher, the son of Joe and Nancy Welscher of Caledonia, was the starting first baseman and one of WTCís top pitchers during his two-year stint. He received his associateís degree in agri-business and science technology and earned a grade point average of 3.4.

"In his first year, Kyle showed tremendous improvement and was named to the Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Conference First Team," WTC baseball coach Rick Preeshl said. "He had a 3-0 record in the conference as a pitcher and hit .325. Kyle led WTC in all thhe significant pitching statistics as a freshman," Preeshl continued.

"This past spring Kyle hit .308 and showed improvement at first base, committing just two errors during the entire season," Preeshl noted. "His role as a pitcher was reduced somewhat, due to the addition of some talented arms. However, he was still second in innings pitched.

"Kyle is the epitome of a student athlete, with both a great attitude and good work ethic," his coach said. "He is the ultimate team player and a pleasure to be around."
