Eddie Hodges will compete in the long jump at the state track meet this weekend in St. Paul.
The sophomore athlete jumped 20 ft., 2.50 in. to claim second place and a shot at the state title.
Zach Gran, a junior sprinter, had one of the fastest times in the state in the 100 meter dash and took first in both the 100 meter and 200 meter at subsections, but suffered a pulled muscle as he was running in the 100 at the section meet in Stewartville, ending his season. He had been taking it easy in the hope that his leg would be ready for the section meet, but the problem flared up during the race.
Another sprinter, Cody Peterson, was out with a hip injury.
Andy Bauer finished fourth in the 200 meter with a time of 23.18.He was sixth in the 400 meter. It was his first time competing at sections.
"Our kids did well," said coach Carl Fruechte. "We improved in everything."
He said the volunteer efforts of Chris Jandt and Lucas Muenkel this season have helped tremendously.
The boys 4 x 200 relay team of Eddie Hodges, Isaac Fruechte, Andy Bauer and Derek Lager was third and missed a trip to the state meet by 0.6 seconds.
Andrell Hudson competed in the shot put and landed in tenth place with a throw of 45 ft. 4 in.
