Boys compete at conference track

Caledonia/Spring Groveís Eddie Hodges won the Southeast Conference long jump title last week with a jump of 20-3 feet. He was the lone Warrior to win a title as the Warriors finished third in the meet.

"We had to hold Eddie out for a few weeks after the first meet. His knee was bothering him," coach Carl Fruechte explained of Hodgesí sudden achievement. In the same event, Derek Beier was tenth and David Jergenson was thirteenth.
In the 100 meter event, Derek Lager was second and Cody Peterson was third. Isaac Fruechte was seventh.

Alex Diersen was seventh in the 200 meter race while Ezra VanRavenhorst was eighth and Casey Bauer was ninth.

Bauer was fourth in the 400 meter while Mitch Reiser was seventh and Jergenson was tenth.

In the 800 meter race, Brad Hesse was third in a time of 2 minutes 11 seconds. "It was his best time at that distance and his best finish," coach Fruechte observed of Hesse. Ryan Mehus was sixth.

Jesse Christian was seventh in the 110 hurdles face while Nick Wagner was ninth. In the 300 meter hurdles, Christian was seventh and Wagner was twelfth.

In the 100 meter and 200 meter relay events, the Warriors were third. In the 4 x 100 meter race, Peterson, Fruechte, Lager and Andy Bauer passed the baton. In the 4 x 100 meter relay, Casey Bauer, Fruechte, Andy Bauer, and Lager represented the team.

The 4 x 400 relay team was fifth. Members of that unit were Christian, Beier, Hesse, and Mehus.

Freshman Elijah Heberlein was ninth in the high jump.

Beier was sixth in the triple jump while Nick Wagner was sixteenth.

Andrell Hudson was seventh in the shot put with a throw of 46-9 1/2 feet. His brother Lonnie was fourteenth.

Nick Schaller was twentieth in the discus. "He had to be the smallest and youngest competitor in that event," said coach Fruechte.

Sprinter Zach Gran did not compete in the meet as he was attending a football camp.

Caledonia/Spring Grove will host its final home track meet on Thursday against Westby.
"Iím looking forward to it," coach Carl Fruechte said. He is going to use the opportunity to enter "a bunch of junior high kids in the meet with the varsity regulars. It will be a good home meet for us," he said.

A week later, the sub-section tournament will be held in La Crescent. The top three place finishers plus those who best certain criteria will advance to the section event.
Coach Fruechte is welcoming alumni to attend the event. "Our kids respond better to the cheers," he said.

The section meet is May 29 and May 31 at Stewartville.
