The Caledonia Warriors baseball team improved its record to 5-2 this past week when they topped Lewiston-Altura 4-3 in Three Rivers Conference play.
CHS 4 LA 3
The Warriors and the Cardinals locked horns April 20 in Lewiston for a classic pitcherís duel, as neither team was able to score until the fifth inning.
Ryan Goetzinger was on the mound for the Warriors, working the first five innings, giving up two hits, no runs, while walking two and striking out six.
CHS took the lead in the top of the sixth when they scored two runs on two hits, two walks, and one L-A error.
With out two, Pat Bolduan walked, moved to second when Tyler Augedahl reached first on an L-A error, and both Warriors were plated when Alex Scholze banged out a double.
CHS made it 3-0 in the top of the sixth when Isaac Schiltz doubled and scored on an RBI single by Matt Mitchell.
The Cards tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth when they scored three runs on three hits and two walks. Alex Klug came in with two outs in the inning to relieve Goetzinger to retire the Cards.
The Warriors scored the winning run in the top of the seventh when Tyler Augedahl singled, moved the second on a sacrifice bunt by Scholze, and scored on an RBI double by Alex Klug.
Alex Klug then retired L-A in order in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
The Warriors had six hits in the game with Tyler Augedahl, Scholtze, Jake Hanson, Alex Klug, Schiltz, and Mitchell, each with a hit.
"We got another excellent pitching performance by Ryan Goetzinger," coach Eliott Kranz said. "Alex Klug came through in the clutch with an RBI double in the seventh for the game-winning hit."
Game postponed
due to darkness
It appeared as if the local nine had notched their sixth win of the season Thursday evening, when leading Planview-Elgin-Millville 6-0 in the sixth inning, the infield umpire apparently called the game, due to darkness. Unfortunately, the home-plate umpire overruled his counterpart in blue and decided not to call the game. PEM scored six runs in the top of the seventh, and then the game was postponed due to darkness, with the score knotted at 6-all.
Caledonia was scheduled to have their final at-bats Monday, April 30 in St. Charles before their regularly-scheduled game against the Saints. Results of Mondayís action were not available before this issue of the Argus went to press.
