The Caledonia/Spring Grove 4x100 meter relay team was first, as was 100 meter dash runner Zach Gran, at the La Crescent American Legion Invitational last Friday.
The relay team was composed of Cody Peterson, Isaac Fruechte, Derek Lager, and Gran. It beat a team from Fillmore Central/Lanesboro.
Gran continued his dominance of the 100 meters with a run of 11.34 seconds, just .08 seconds off the meet record. Lager was fourth in the race.
The 4x200 relay team was third in the meet. Members of that squad were Andy Bauer, Fruechte, Lager, and Petersen the boys 4x400 relay team was ninth.
Derek Beier was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 18-01.5 feet and teammate David Jergenson was eighth.
Bauer was fifth in the 400 meter race. It was only the second time he had run that distance in a meet, coach Carl Fruechte said. Beier was sixth in the triple jump.
In the 800 meter race, Ryan Mehus was seventh and Brad Hesse was eighth.
Coach Fruechte wanted to single out the effort of Jesse Christian in the 300 meter hurdles. He had taken a tumble in an earlier event, Fruechte said. Even though, Fruechte said the effort "took grit" in the hurdles. He said that Christian has changed his technique to a ë3 stepí method. "Heís just got to keep doing it. It is a strength issue," Fruechte said.
"Iím very happy with the way our kids are placing and gaining new personal records with each meet. I really like getting these meets in," he said of the weather-delayed season.
