Sprinters rule at May Soiree

The Caledonia/Spring Grove sprinters had an excellent showing at the La Crescent May Soiree Invitational on May 15.
Courtney Gran finished the 100 meter dash in 13.45 for first place, and Sarah Colleranís came in second with a time of 13.47. Megan King was fourth an Alecia Fruechte took sixth.
In the 200 meter, Ashley King was first and had a top 20 time of 27.09. Courtney Gran came in second with a time of 27.92. Sarah Colleran came in third at 28.05. Molly Furlong was sixth and Bobbi Jo Schuttemeier was tenth.
"We tried some different runners in the sprints and they did very well," said coach Paul Stevens. "The sub-section meet is coming up and we look like we are almost at full strength."
In the 400 meter, Megan Schmitz was seventh. Stormy Ott took fiyurth in the 800 with a time of 2:41.55.
Richell Mehus took first in the 1600 meter, finishing in 5:57.08.
Samantha Wermager did an excellent job on the hurdles, taking first in both the 100 meter and 300 meter. Her time in the 100 was 16.28, which was among the top 10 scores ever recorded for that event. at Earl Seaton Field.
"Samanthaís time in the 100 metre hurdles was her best of the season," said coach Stevens. "She is among the leaders in this event for Section 1A."
Alecia Welscher was seventh in that event.
Wermagerís time in the 300 mter was 48.97, which is among the top 10 times recorded since 1999.
The 4x200 relay team of Laquita Becker, Molly Furlong, Megan King, and Ashley King took first place. Their time of 1:51.39 was among the top 20 times for that event since 1999.
The 4 x 100 team of Furlong, Becker, Megan King, and Alecia Fruechte finished in 53.61 for second place.
Samantha Wermager was third in the long jump. Her distance in that event was 15 ft. 05.75 in. Alecia Welscher, Lydia Petersen and Morgan Hansen competed in the long jump as well. Rachel Bauer and Kayla McCormick competed in the long jump.
In the triple jump, Katie Wiste had a distance of 32 ft. 8.5 in. for a first place finish and the distinction of having a score that was among the top 20 since 1999.
Samantha Wermager was second with 32 ft. 6.25 inc.
Lydia Petersen and Alecia Welscher were fourth and fifth.
Molly Schaller took first place in the shot put. She threw 34 ft. 6 in. Betsy Schaller was fifth and Arie Albert was ninth.
In the discus, Molly Schaller ws fifth with a distance of 91 ft. 9 in., and Betsy Schaller was sixth with 91 ft. Arie Alebrt had a throw of 74 ft. 2 in. and Sarah Meyer had a throw of 54 ft., 0.5 in.
In the last dual meet of the season, the Caledonia/Spring Grove track team hosted Westby (Wis.) High School on May 17.
The hometown team stole the top four spots in the 100 meter dash. Courtney Gran had a time of 14.05 for first place, and Megam Schmitz was second at 14.51. Samantha Wermager was third and Alecia Fruechte was fourth.
Courtney Gran took second in the 200 meter. Her time was 28.56 Megan Schmitz was third and Samantha Wermager was fourth.
Wermager took first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.76.
In the 800 meter, Stormy Ott headed the pack and finished first in 2:44.70.
Alecia Welscher was second in the 100 meter hurdles.
The 4 x 100 reFurlong, Megan King, lay team of Courtney Gran, Sarah Colleran, Molly Furlong and Laquita Becker was first with a time of 52.65. In the 4 x 200, it was Furlong, Colleran, Megan King, and Ashley King who took first. The teamís time was 1:49.62.
The 4 x 800 team took first with a time of 10:49.93. Running on that team were Stormy Ott, Michaela Neuzil, Richel Mehus and Bobbi Jo Schuttemeier.
Rachel Bauer was first in the high jump at 4 ft. 6 in.
Samantha Wermager was first in the triple jump. Hr distance was 33 ft. 6.5 in.
Molly Schaller was first in the shot put with a throw if 33 ft. 9.75 inches, and Betsy Schaller took second wth a throw of 28 ft. 7.5 in.
Molly Schaller threw the discus 101 ft. for a first place finish that was 12 ft. further than the next-best distance.
The sub-section 1A track meet will be Thursday at La Crescent High School. The field events begin at 4:30 p.m. and the running events begin at 5:00 p.m.
