Lions will battle for second place

The Spring Grove/Caledonia Lions meet the Dover-Eyota Eagles today at 4:30 in St. Charles in the losers bracket of 1AA East sub-section softball.

If the Lions win, they will play the loser of the Cotter-St. Charles championship game at 6:30 this evening for second place.
Sub-section play began for the Lions on May 17 when they managed a 4-3 victory over the Eagles of Dover-Eyota.
Cassie Gran pitched most of the game with Jane Pettit stepping in for two-thirds of an inning. Gran struck out four and allowed 4 hits.

The Lions scored two runs in the first inning, thanks to a triple by Jane Pettit. Pettit was 2 for 3 and scored twice against the Eagles.
Cassie Gran was also 2 for 3.

SG/C scored its last two runs ion the sixth inning to make the score 4-2 going into the seventh. D-E managed just one more run, giving SG/C the win.

Lose to Cotter 13-4

The Lions struggled against Winona Cotter and suffered a 13-4 loss. Cotter had 13 runs off 12 hits, while Caledonia managed only 4 runs off 9 hits in the May 19 game.

The Lions scored two runs in the first inning and Cotter had three. The lead widened in the second inning when the Ramblers added five runs. The Lions scored two runs in the third, and the Ramblers had another four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Katie Florin was 3 for 3 and led the Ramblers with two home runs and 7 RBI. Jenny Gilbertson also had a home run.
For the Lions, Jordan OíHeron, Libby Augedahl and Jane Pettit each had two hits. Jane Pettit and Miranda Lager had doubles.
Lions beat La Crescent

The Lions beat the Lancers 8-1 to stay alive in the tournament.
Half the Lionsí runs came in the first inning, and the girls added 3 more in the second to take a 7-1 lead. The last run was scored in the third inning.

Jane Pettit was the winning pitcher .

Jordan OíHeron went 4 for 4 and had a double. Libby Augedahl was 2 for 3, and Jane Pettit was 2 for 3 and hhit two doubles and 4 RBI.

Miranda Lager and Aly Meyr each had two hits, and Lager also hit a double.

The win put the Lionsí record at 16-7 overall.

Tournament play continues

The winner of this afternoonís game will play the loser of the Cotter-St. Charles match-up at 6:30 in St. Charles. The winner of each game advances to the section tournament.
