Two Caledonia golfers state-bound
In subsection play:
The Caledonia boys golf team placed third out of seven teams at the Section 1A Sub-section meet held Tuesday, May 22 at Adams. Rushford-Peterson placed first with a four person team score of 339. LaCrescent was second at 347, the Warriors were next at 351, Fillmore Central was fourth at 373, Houston was fifth at 401, Chatfield was sixth at 404, and Mabel-Canton was seventh at 447.
Three Caledonia golfers qualified for the Section 1, which was held at The Oaks Country Club in Hayfield May 29 after this edition of The Argus went to press. In fact, the Warriors turned in three of the top five individual scores in the sub-section meet.
Kyle Runningen carded an 82, good for second place tied with Bobby Pena of LaCrescent. Garrett Cross and Alek Eglinton both shot 87ís, and tied for fifth place.
R-Pís Jared Agrimson shot a 77 for medalist honors.
Other scores for the Warriors were Erik Fisch and Mitchell Massman with 95ís and Craig Loeffler with a 96.
The top five individuals, plus members of the sub-section champion team advanced to the Section 1 meet.
The Caledonia-Spring Grove girlsí golf team advanced to the Section tournament after winning top honors at the sub-section 1-A tournament which took place Tuesday, May 22 at Cedar River Golf Course in Adams.
The Warriorsí 387 was 26 strokes better than second place Chatfield with 413. Fillmore Central was third with 433, Houston fourth with 493 and LaCrescent fifth with 517.
Medalist for the tournament was Janelle Lilliquist with a score of 88. Second and third places also were Caledonia players; Laura Roesler carded a 97 and Heather Kuecker a 98. Kelly Bauer and Samantha Meyer each shot a 104 for the last counting score for C-SG. Tayler Kurk carded a 110. Also qualifying as individuals are Jessica Steinbrink 99, Annessa Kester 101, and Paige Peterson 105 from Chatfield; and Trisha Harstad 107 and Kaila Erickson 108 from Fillmore Central.
Next: The section tournament was held Tuesday, May 29 at the Oaks in Hayfield.
Coach Ken Van Den Boom said that the teams they expected to advance to Section will be there: Lake City, Stewartville and Byron. "Of course, when you get to this level, you meet some very good teams," he said. "Lake City would be considered the favorite."
