Lions lose in last game of season
The Spring Grove/Caledonia?Lions beat Dover-Eyota in the losers bracket of sub-section 1AA east?on May 23, and then lost its chance?to advance to sections after getting?beat by St. Charles 3-0.?

The score was tied 5-5 in the?bottom of the sixth inning in the game against Dover-Eyota when?Theresa Ellenz connected with the?ball and got to second base on a?passed ball. She moved to third?on a sacrifice bunt by Sarah Wold.?Cassie Gran hit a sacrifice fly to?right field and Ellenz slid safely into?home plate for the winning run.?

Cassie Gran was 2 for 3 with a?triple and 2 RBI. Libby Augedahl?went 3 for 3 and had a double. Theresa Ellenz was 2 for 3 and scored?twice. She hit a double in the fourth?inning.??
Jane Pettit pitched the winning?game and struck out 7 and walked?one. SHe allowed 9 hits.??
The Lions had 11 hits and left?five on the bases.??
Against St. Charles, which lost?to Winona Cotter in the champion?ship game, the players endured a?rain delay of more than an hour.??
"I am really proud of how the?girls played both before and after?the delay," said coach Michelle?Anderson. "They never stopped?encouraging each other and made??some really nice plays on defense.??We were very aggressive at bat?against a hard-throwing, experienced pitcher from St. Charles"??
Cassie Gran was 2 for 4 and had?a triple in the fifth inning. Jordan?OíHeron, Jane Pettit, Karla Tweeten?and Theresa Ellenz all contributed?singles.?
The Lions ended the season with?a record of 17-8 overall and 5-3 in?the Southeast Conference.??
