Track girls excel at La Crescent Invitational

The Caledonia/Spring Grove/Mabel girls track team had an excellent showing at the La Crescent "Johnny Cash" Classic on May 4 with 10 first-place finished.
Ashley King won both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. Her time in the 100 meter was 13.57, and in the 200 she finished in 27.90.
Molly Furlong was second in the 200 with a time of 28.50. Courtney Gran completed the 200 in 28.60 for fourth place.
Courtney Gran finished the 100 in 13.88; Sarah Colleran in 13.97 and Megan King in 14.00.
Sarah Colleran took second in the 400 meter with a time of 1:04.71. Kayla McCormick and Danielle Frank had times f 1:10.62 and 1:13.05.
Samantha Wermager took first place honors in both the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. Her time in the 100 was 17.39 and it was 50.75 for the 300.
Alecia Welscher was fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Her time was 20.39.
C/SG/M took first in both the 4 x 100 meter relay and the 4 x 200.
Molly Furlong, Megan King, Laquita Becker and Alecia Fruechthe ran the 4 x 100 in 52.95. In the 4 x 200, Ashley King ran in place of Alecia Fruechte and finished in 1:51.28, which was among the top 20 scores since 1999.
Katie Wiste took first in the long jump and in the triple jump. Her distance in the long jump was 14-11. Samantha Wermager was second in that event with a distance of 14-08.
It was the same ranking in the triple jump, with Wiste earning a top 10 score of 34-11 for first place. Wermager was in second place with a distance of 32-02.
Molly Schaller finished first in the shot put and discus. Her throw in the shot was 31-08.25. Bestsy Schaller was third with 29-05.25.
Molly had a distance of 93-06 in the discus and sister Betsy was second with 91-11.
There was a varsity track meet against Grand Meadow in Caledonia on Monday, and on Thursday, May 17, there will be dual meet at home against Westby, Wis.
The track teams will compete in the Three Rivers Conference meet in Lewiston on Saturday. The last regular meet is against La Crescent on May 15.
