After more than three months, Highway 76 between I-90 and Houston is open to traffic

Highway 76, south of Interstate 90 to Houston County Road 9, will reopen to traffic Nov. 21 at approximately 3 p.m. The highway has been closed since the Aug. 18-19 floods to allow crews to complete a number of emergency repairs.

Projects included a bridge replacement over Money Creek, as well as repairs to roadway slopes and three additional bridges on Highway 76.

Motorists may still encounter crews working on the highway while they complete shouldering and seeding projects.

With the opening of Highway 76, about 95 percent of the flood-related work slated for this year is complete. Two additional contracts, estimated at $2 to 4 million, will be let in spring 2008 for bridge and channel restoration on old Highway 61 in Minnesota City, and for flood-related work on the Arches on Highway 14.

Lunda Construction Company is the prime contractor for the bridge replacement project. Rud Excavating is the prime contractor for the bridge repair project and Soil Nail Launcher, Inc., is the prime contractor for the slope repair project.

Mn/DOT urges motorists to drive with caution, slow down in the work zone and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones. For statewide traffic, construction and travel information visit www.511mn.org or call 511.
