Here's hoping your Thanksgiving holiday was as enjoyable as mine

By Daniel McGonigle
Argus Managing Editor

I hope your holiday was as fun as mine and I hope you enjoyed the company of your loved ones as much as my family and I enjoyed each othersí.

After being taken by $99 a barrel oil and taking a kick in the shorts at the pumps, my family and I traveled south to the Quad Cities (the Illinois side of the big river) where we met up with my mother, father and sisters (and their respective families) who live in Buffalo NY and San Antonio Texas respectively.

I live in Montevideo/Caledonia Minn. so our family doesnít get together every weekend as you might have guessed.

Life took each of us to these places and each of us have carved out enough of a life where we live that I suspect none of us will ever be moving closer to the other (though I am happy to report that Caledonia is only three and a half to four short hours from my parentsí house).

Anyway, we all got together for the holidays and made the most of the short time we did get to see one another.

I am always amazed when I get together with my family how little room for any "family dynamics or drama" there is during our visits.

We all laugh and truly enjoy being around one another and we are "equal opportunity" when it comes to the teasing (though admittedly my father was our favorite target this weekend).

It was a really good time and I hope you all enjoyed your visits and smiled and laughed as much as we all did.

Iíd share some of the stories, but this is a family newspaper.

Congrats to the Warriors

I wasnít there. In fact, I am sad to report that I didnít see a single Warrior game this season. That has more to do with how scheduling shook down for my starting this job than anything. I have had to live through the experience by reading about it in the Argus, and well wishes on the signs and windows of area businesses. Even rival Houston had some well wishes adorning various windows.

You all know how it turned out, and I just want to say "congratulations on a great year." This will be with all of us in this town for the rest of our lives (especially those players, their families and the faculty at Caledonia schools).

One day, as each of you gather with your families for some Thanksgiving years from now, youíll recall the 2007 season with a fondness and a smile.

And I hope youíll all pull out the commemorative edition the staff at the Caledonia Argus put together as our part of honoring this historic experience. This keepsake is a look-back on a wonderful season and captures the essence of the Warriorsí historic run to the state title. My personal thank you to the advertisers, staff and school board at Caledonia high school, the players and coaches and of course, the staff here at the Argus who put so much extra time and energy into making this commemorative edition look, in my view, very nice. I am very lucky to work with such talented people.
