Argus GM hired

"Iím excited to be a member of the staff at the Caledonia Argus and am looking forward to meeting the members of the communities we serve," said new General Manager/Managing Editor Daniel McGonigle.

McGonigle began his duties with the Argus last week after six years at the Advocate Tribune in Granite Falls where he most recently held the position of Editor and Managing Editor of the Advocate Tribune and Tri-County News (Cottonwood Minnesota).

"My family and I were taken by the beautiful topography in this part of the state," said McGonigle. "When we spent some time here deciding if this would be a good fit, and got to visit with a few people, we were hooked."

McGonigle and his wife Emily are raising six boys and currently reside in Montevideo Minnesota.

"It is all the way on the other side of the state and takes about five to five-and-a-half hours of windshield time depending on how fast you are going," he said. "My commute isnít much fun."

For now, Emily and the children are remaining back in Montevideo while the couple makes the transition.

Emily is a social worker with Yellow Medicine County and is completing work on a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

"I joke that she is getting a masters in understanding me," said McGonigle. "As a mother of six, it canít hurt to have a degree behind you to help raise the best family possible."

McGonigle himself enjoys writing, dealing with people and working in the newspaper business.

"The pace," he said of what he likes best. "There is always something going on and no two days are ever the same. I am looking forward to working with the business owners in the community to help them in any way the paper can, as well as the citizens of the area in telling their stories."

When McGonigle isnít sitting at a keyboard or out on a story assignment, he can be found spending time with his family. He also enjoys music, hunting, fishing, riding dirt bikes and movies among other things.

As McGonigle settles into his new position, he is happy to report that the people he works with have been very helpful in easing him into his new job.

"Everyone in the office, and by extension the company have been so helpful and understanding," he said. "I am really excited to be part of the team at the Caledonia Argus. I think together we can make something very special. All of the people at ECM Publishing (the parent company of the Argus) have also been so wonderful to work with. It is really a family atmosphere here which has made me feel very comfortable."

Of course McGonigle goes on to state that "I hope anyone who reads this will stop in and say ëhi.í I have had several readers in Granite Falls tell me of their family connections to this area so I already know a few people in the community by association. I also hope those with no connections to the western part of the state will stop in and introduce themselves to me. Otherwise, you can be sure youíll be seeing me around the community on a regular basis."
