Virginia La Vonne (Moen) Oakes
Virginia La Vonne (Moen) Oakes, age 78, of Spring Grove died Monday, November 5, 2007 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
She was born November 29, 1928 in Spring Grove to Odin and Viola (Miner) Moen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Spring Grove.
She attended Black Hammer Country School and graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1946.
She married Harold N. Oakes, Jr. on September 20, 1947 and they continued to live in Spring Grove.
Virginia was a member of TLCW, Buds and Blossums Garden Club, Piecemakers Quilting, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of local card club for 50 plus years.
Survivors include her sons Russell (Donna), Highlandville, Iowa; DuWayne (fiance Julie), Spring Grove; Jerald (Pat), Spring Grove; Todd (Terri), Jordan Minn.; and her daughters Darlene (special friend Marc), Spring Grove, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren; four sisters, Thelma Branaugh of Yankton, S.D.; Donna Otterness and Pat Tweito, Spring Grove; and Beverly Housker of Mabel; also one sister-in-law, Mildred Moen, Spring Grove.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Harold, a daughter Karen, grandson Gus, four brothers Vernon, Chester, Tom and Stanley.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
