"It means we can pretty much stay our course," said Caledonia schools superintendent Mike Moriarty of the passing of the school levy referendum.

Voters in the district passed a levy referendum which will help supplement basic state per-pupil aid funding.

The measure passed by a 531-356 margin.

"About 60-40 in favor," said Moriarty.

Since the levy was passed, the district will now be able to continue to offer programs such as:

ïthe continuation of all-day, every-day kindergarten

ïthe maintaining of current course offerings

ïthe maintaining of the current text book rotation cycle (had it not passed books would have been in circulation for a much longer period of time)

ïmaintaining the current level of funding also means the district can continue up-keep on the current buildings and grounds

ïmaintain current class sizes (or close to it)

ïmaintain a positive general fund balance

ïmusic programs will also be maintained at current levels

"Weíre pleased because it means we wonít have to make any program adjustments," said Moriarty.

Many school districts across the region went to the polls on Tuesday and voters in all of those districts passed their levy referendums.

Moriarty expressed his gratitude to all voters who took part in the process.

"Iíd really like to thank all of the voters who voted one way or the other," said Moriarty. "I think it is important that people got out and voted. The citizens have stated what kind of school theyíd like to have and what kind of education theyíd like to see provided for their children."
