Caledonia traveled to St. Charles on Tuesday, Oct. 9, defeating the Fighting Saints in three games: 25-21, 25-22, 25-12. The Warriorsí record moved to 7-2 in the conference and 22-5 overall.

Coach Scott Koepke said that this was a very big match for the girls. "There were seeding and conference implications on the line, but most importantly we wanted to show ourselves we could have great effort and spirit a whole match against a good opponent, and thatís exactly what happened," said Koepke.

"The girls really showed they learned so much from last Tuesdayís Chatfield match. We played with a great deal of energy and worked very hard. I was very proud of the way the girls handled themselves on the court. Alecia Fruechte handled herself amazingly well, playing for her Grandpa Bud who had passed away Monday. She hung in there all night and played just the way Bud would have liked her to, with a lot of passion and hustle. She led us in kills and digs and played like a senior captain. The whole team was playing with a heavy heart as so many people knew Bud and loved him.

"All the girls played such tough defense, hustled, talked, and worked the entire match. This was the most complete match for our team this year as we look to wrap up our regular season. Cassie set the ball to the right side of the court very well and Aly Meyer played the net well and had an amazing serving run in game three and 4 aces for the match.

Statistics: Alecia Fruechte had 8 kills, 10 digs, 1 ace serve, and was 5 for 5 serving; Libby Augedahl had 5 kills, 8 digs, 1 ace serve, and was 12 for 13 serving; Cassie Gran had 22 set assists, 1 kills, 5 digs, 2 ace serves, and was 10 for 12 serving; Megan King had 4 kills, 7 digs, 2 ace blocks, 1 ace serve, and was 15 for 16 serving; Aly Meyer had 3 kills, 4 ace serves, and was 11 for 11 serving; Amber Ideker had 2 kills, 7 digs and 1 ace block; Amber Sorenson had 4 kills and 1 ace block; and Jenna Schmitz was 10 for 10 serving.

Next: Caledonia wound up its regular season with a home match against Rushford-Peterson on Tuesday, October 16.
