Joseph Lee

Joseph Benjamin Lee, 79, of Caledonia, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007 at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse.

JoeÝwas born January 20, 1928 in Rochester, Minn., to Rev. Clarence L. Lee and his wife, Letta (Fjelstul). In 1929,Ýhe moved to Caledonia with his family. In 1946,ÝJoe graduated from Caledonia High School and then attended Luther College. On Oct. 8, 1949,Ýhe married Geraldine Schroeder at St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Joe was employed with Nelson Lumber Company in Caledonia until 1965. From 1970 until 1980, he served as the Houston County Assessor and from 1980 until 1990 he served as the Steele County Assessor. Joe also was a former president of the Minnesota Association of Assessing Officers. He was a member of St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Joe also was a former mayor and council member of Caledonia.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; two sons: Steve (Susan), Rochester; and Eric, of Byron; three grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Walter (Thelma) Lee, Northfield; and two sisters-in-law, Priscilla Lee, Red Wing; and Katherine Lee, Eugene, Ore.

Joe was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Louise Lee; two brothers, Rev. Dr. Clarence L. Lee and Robert E. Lee; and one sister-in-law, Donna Lee.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 at 1 p.m. at St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Jon Wolff will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, on Saturday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 12 noon until the time of service.
