Oren Myhre
Oren Edwin Myhre, 87, of Caledonia, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007 at Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia.
He was born Dec. 29, 1919 in Caledonia to Ole A. and Louise (Morken) Myhre.
He was a lifelong area resident, and a Caledonia High School graduate.
Myhre served in the United States Army from 1942-1944, serving for a period of time in Alaska and Panama.
On June 5, 1948 he married Shirley Vingers in La Crosse, Wis. The couple farmed in Wilmington Township, rural Caledonia, until his retirement. He worked as a custodian for Caledonia High School, and at Beaver Creek State Park in rural Caledonia. He was an active member of Wilmington Lutheran Church, a member of the Guernsey Cattle Club, and an adult 4-H leader.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of Caledonia; three sons Gerald (Naomi) Myhre, Caledonia; Paul (Rhonda) Myhre, Houston; and Alan, Canton; four daughters Lynnette (Charles) Pederson, Rushford; Mary (Robert) Staggemeier; Susan (Dean) Meyer, New Albin, Iowa; and Linda (Jim) Hacker, Boone, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother Leland (Monica) Myhre, Edina; three sisters Gertrude Haugstad, Spring Grove; Ruth Ostlie, Eau Claire, Wis., and Irene (Eldred) Rostvold, Rushford; brother-in-law James Pederson, Minneapolis; brother-in-law David (Virginia) Vingers, Oxford, Va.; and one sister-in-law Lorraine Myhre, Prairie Du Chien, Wis.
Oren was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Arnold and Alice Myhre; his brother Andrew Myhre; his sister Lillian Pederson; his brother and sister-in-law Stella and Einar Gran; his sister and brother-in-law Viola and Irvin Rovang; his son-in-law Ronald Meyer; one grandchild Matthew Myhre; and one great-granddaughter Sabrina Schuttemeier.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Caledonia. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military rites provided by American Legion Post #249 of Spring Grove. Pastor Elizabeth Stempinski will officiate.
Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
