Inexperienced girls soccer team produced stellar 16-2 season

Even though much of the CHS girls varsity soccer lineup was new, the Warriors achieved a 16-2 season. They beat every team in the section except for La Crescent, losing to the Lancers twice. The second loss came for the section title and a trip to the state tournament.
Offense
The Warriors were an offensive force this year with 16 players scoring a total of 80 goals. Senior Sarah Colleran set a school record with 35 goals. She earned all state honors.
Bobbi Joe Schuttemeier had 10 goals and Erica Myhre scored six goals.
Megan Schmitz led the team in assists with seven. "Megan deserved kudos for getting her crosses off," varsity coach Sue Link said. Right behind Schmitz was Colleran with six and Theresa Ellenz had five assists. A total of nine players had 28 assists this year.
Link was especially pleased with the number of goal scorers, something she always looks to in assessing a teamís strength.Ý
Defense
The defense was equally strong. It only allowed nine goals during the entire season. With goalie Arie Albert leading a group of defenders usually consisting of Kelsey Konkel, Mary Ellen Schiltz, Brittney Wagner, Erica Myhre, and Ally Sheehan.Ý
"This team showed considerable development as the season progressed," said Link. "Many players worked hard during the off season and it showed on the field." Link believed the turning point came in a stretch where the squad won five meets in six days.
"We have a number of talented people coming back next year," Link said.
"I also need to recognize the work of Amber Schoh, our manager," Link said. "She helped with books; made locker signs; and helped organize parentsí night. I would say she was indispensable."
Link also thanked public address announcer Danny Tweten and concession stand organizer Gail McCormick.
Correction
In last weekís article on the Warriorsí tournament games, the final score reported in the first paragraph of the article was incorrect. La Crescent won the game 4-1.
