The Caledonia volleyball squad is one game away from the Section 1AA championship game. The first seed Warriors will meet third seed St. Charles on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Mayo Civic to determine who will meet the winners of the sub-section 1AA West. Who Caledonia will play will be decided at the Stewartville and Cannon Falls game at Mayo Civic Arena Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. To get this far in the tournaments, Caledonia defeated Lake City and Dover Eyota.

Caledonia 3, Lake City 0

In the Sub-section 1AA East quarterfinal game on Thursday, Oct. 25 in Caledonia, the Warriors beat Lake City 3-0 with scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-18

Coach Scott Koepke said that the girls played a nice match for their last match at home.

"Megan King led us with 15 kills and hit .538 which is outstanding," said Koepke. "Aly Meyer again served very well for us going 10 for 13 with 4 aces. The girls played with good intensity and hustled all night."

Statistics: Cassie Gran had 20 set assists, 5 kills, 4 digs, 1 block, was 10 for 21 serving and had 1 ace serve; Megan King 15 kills, 6 digs, and was 11 for 12 serving; Alecia Fruechte 8 kills, 9 digs, 2 blocks and was 9 for 10 serving; Libby Augedahl 7 kills, 8 digs, 1 block, was 5 for 8 serving, and had 1 ace serve; Aly Meyer 4 kills, 1 block, 10 for 13 serving and 4 ace serves; Amber Ideker 9 digs; Amber Sorenson 3 kills; Laquita Becker 4 digs.

Caledonia 3, Dover-Eyota 1

On Saturday, Oct. 27 at Mayo Civic, Caledonia defeated Dover-Eyota 3-1 with scores of 25-16, 25-18, 22-25, and 25-14.

"We started out pretty well in games one and two and had a little drop in communication in game three," said Koepke.

"Communication brings your team a lot of energy. When youíre talking you get energetic plays and it spreads to everyone. We really talked well to start off game four which was the difference in the deciding game.

"Dover-Eyota really played scrappy the entire match and played a nice third game. Rich Olson has really done a nice job with those girls this year; it was great to see them get to Rochester.

"Amber Sorenson played a nice match at the net for us with 10 kills and 1 block. She hit .347 which is excellent. Alecia hit .290 and had 11 digs and 3 aces. Cassie had 34 set assists and added 4 aces. We had 11 aces which is very good considering itís a difficult venue to serve in because behind the court is so open.

"For our upcoming match this Wednesday vs. St. Charles weíre going to need to talk the whole match. Weíll also need to give an all out effort which is what these kids have done all year."

Statistics: Cassie Gran had 34 set assists, 3 kills, 8 digs, was 28 for 29 serving, and had 4 ace serves. Alecia Fruechte had 10 kills, 11 digs, was 16 for 18 serving and had 3 ace serves; Megan King 9 kills, 10 digs, 1 set assist, 2 blocks; was 24 for 26 serving and had 2 ace serves; Amber Sorenson 10 kills, 1 block; Libby Augedahl 7 kills, 9 digs, 1 block, and was 9 for 12 serving; Aly Meyer 4 kills, 1 dig, and was 6 for 9 serving; Amber Ideker 2 kills, 10 digs; Laquita Becker 8 digs.

The Warriorsí record is now 25-5.
