Vernon Arnold Lund
Vernon Arnold Lund, 78, of Peterson and formerly of Spring Grove died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at his home after a long courageous battle with respiratory disease.
He was born September 15, 1929, in Preble Township, Fillmore County, Minn., to Martin and Viola (Rank) Lund.
He grew up in Black Hammer (rural Spring Grove), and then lived in Spring Grove.
He attended Spring Grove High School. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer.
Vernon entered the service in 1949, serving in the Korean War. He was discharged in 1962.
On March 16, 1966, Vernon married Helen Oesterle. He worked for Hectorís in Caledonia, Minn., driving truck and doing other jobs.
For the last 22 years Vernon and Helen lived in Peterson.
Vernon belonged to American Legion Post 249 of Spring Grove, and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Helen, Peterson; his sons, James (Nicole) Lund, Spring Grove; and John (Michelle) Lund, Houston; his daughters, Connie (Jerry) Johnson, La Crosse; and Barbara Lund, Peterson; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; his brother, Oscar (Mary) Lund, Canton, Minn.; and his sisters, Olga Ranzenberger, Caledonia; Betty Bigalk, Harmony, Minn.; and Jessie (Ralph) Houser, La Crescent, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence, Oren and Maurice, and his sisters, Ruth Houser and Irene Kuene.
Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 29, in Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer, rural Spring Grove. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Leonard Liptack officiated. Friends called from 4-7pm on Friday at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and noon to services Saturday at the church.
Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove was in charge of arrangements.
