"Weíre starting to gel at the right time. The kids are really playing together and weíre putting the ball in the net," said a happy Caledonia boys soccer head coach Tom Krinke. The CHS boys posted three more wins this past week and improved their season record to 8-3-2.

The Warriors shut out Winona Cotter 3-0 on Monday, Sept. 24, blanked Schaefer Academy 2-0 Sept. 27, and then traveled to Onalaska Saturday and returned home with a 3-1 victory.

Warriors 3 Ramblers 0

The Warriors hosted a good Winona Cotter team last week during a very windy afternoon. Krinke felt his charges controlled the game from start to finish, as they took the lead, spread out the field, and kept the ball away from the Ramblers.

Alexandre Castanheira scored the first CHS goal on a pass from Colin Gluch at the 12 minute mark of the first half. Gluch made it 2-0 just before the first half ended when he scored off a pass from Jackson Huus.

The Warriors made it 3-0 when Jordan Becker scored on a penalty kick with eight minutes remaining in the second half.

The Warriors out-shot the Ramblers 19-12, and once again featured a very stingy defense. This was the sixth shutout of the season for CHS.

CHS 2 SASH 0

The Warriors traveled to Rochester Thursday afternoon and returned home with a 2-0 win over Schaeffer Academy. Schaeffer Academy has an excellent team, according to Krinke and brought an 8-2 record into the game.

After battling to a 0-0 score at the end of the first half, Krinke made some adjustments that paid off.

The field at Rochester is almost completely square," the coach explained. "Our kids arenít really used to playing on that type of field. So we made some adjustments and started making things happen in the second half."

Gluch took a pass from Maros Zelenak less than a minute into the second half and scored for the 1-0 lead.

The Warriors made it 2-0 at the 60 minute mark when Castanheira scored on an unassisted goal.

"Alex had quite a goal," Krinke said. "He was in front of the net, kicked the ball hard, knocked the goalie over, kicked it again into a Schaeffer defender, and kicked the rebound a third time before he scored. He stuck with it and made it happen."

Once again, the Warrior defense played a very solid game, posting their seventh shutout of the season. The Warriors out-shot Schaeffer 18-11.

"We really preach defense on our team," Krinke said. "We feel defense is a very important part of the game. I feel our kids are really playing well together."

Caledonia 3 Onalaska 1

Mother Nature wasnít real nice to those gathered in Onalaska Saturday for the game between Caledonia and Onalaska. Heavy rain turned the field into a sloppy mess. That did seem to deter the Warriors, as they registered a 3-1 win.

Onalaska scored the first goal of the game at the six-minute mark in the game.

The Warriors came right back with a score of their own when Gluch took a pass from Becker and scored at the nine-minute mark.

"That kind of took the wind out of Onalaskaís sails," Krinke said. "Theyíve had kind of a down year, and to get out ahead of us in the opening minutes of the game really fired them up. But Colinís goal took the gas out of them."

The Warriors scored the go-ahead goal when Kevin Ranzenberger put a corner kick past the goal area and Paul Forrester pounded it home.

The Warriors scored once more two minutes into the second half when Castanheira scored on a pass from Becker.

This week

The Warriors have two more regular season games this week. They entertained Plainview-Elgin-Millville Tuesday and then finish out the season with a battle at La Crescent Thursday.

The Section One seeding meeting will take place Sunday and Krinke is confident the Warriors will be seeded in the top six.

"With our record, and whom we have beaten, we should get a good seed. The kids are playing really well right now. Everything seems to be coming together at just the right time," he concluded.
