The Caledonia Warriors only needed seven games to defeat two opponents last week. Their wins against St. Charles and Plainview-Elgin-Millville moved their record to 20-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Caledonia 3, St. Charles 1

Caledonia hosted St. Charles for a non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The Warriors took the Saints down in four games with scores of 25-22, 25-19, 20-25, and 25-15.

Coach Scott Koepke said that even though this was a non conference game it was still a very big match for Caledonia.

"St. Charles runs a very strong middle attack and they serve the ball very hard and for a high percentage. We saw that first hand in the first game when we were down 1-8. The girls fought very hard and communicated very well to pull back and take game one. We really kept it going into the second game. We stopped talking a bit in game three and let our energy drop, but the girls got right back at it in game four.

"We blocked very well all night and gave a great effort which is a trademark of our team. Megan King had four blocks and had several other balls she blocked back that they picked up. Amber Sorenson and Cassie Gran also had 2 blocks. Alecia Fruechte had 13 kills hitting .275 and Libby Augedahl had 10 kills hitting .281. Both are very strong numbers. Alecia also added 21 digs and 3 aces coming up with a big all around match which is what youíre looking for from your seniors in a big match like this."

Statistics: Cassie Gran had 28 set assists, 9 kills, 13 digs, 2 ace blocks, 1 ace serve, and was 19 for 19 serving; Alecia Fruechte 13 kills, 21 digs, 1 set assist, 3 ace serves, and was 18 for 18 serving; Libby Augedahl 10 kills, 8 digs, 2 set assists, 1 ace block, and was 11 for 12 serving; Megan King 8 kills, 14 digs, 4 ace blocks, 2 ace serves, and was 15 for 18 serving; Amber Ideker 8 kills, 13 digs, and was 9 for 11 serving; Amber Sorenson 5 kills, 3 digs and 2 ace blocks; Laquita Becker 6 digs; Jenna Schmitz 4 digs and was 11 for 12 serving.

Caledonia 3, PEM 0

Plainview-Elgin-Millville traveled to Caledonia Thursday, Sept. 27 for a drubbing with scores of 25-12, 25-3, and 25-13.

"We hit .408 as a team which mean we passed, set, and attacked well," said Koepke. "We really got our passes up to Cassie quickly and accurately which is one of the goals weíve set for our team. (Passing the ball well up to the net) This got our offense going nicely which gave PEM fits all night.

"We served the ball really solid. We had 12 aces and only 5 errors which is where you want to be. Cassie had a great night serving, getting the first 15 points of game two. Thatís good stuff.

"The girls were pretty focused and we got a lot of good runs in our offense. Alecia and Libby were again our attack leaders with 11 and 8 kills."

Statistics: Cassie Gran had 23 set assists, 2 kills, 5 digs, 3 ace serves, and was 25 for 27 serving; Alecia Fruechte 11 kills, 2 digs, 1 ace block, 4 ace serves, and was 11 for 11 serving; Libby Augedahl 8 kills, 1 dig, 1 set assist, 1 ace block, 2 ace serves, and was 11 for 12 serving; Megan King 3 kills, 7 digs, 3 ace blocks, 3 ace serves, and was 19 for 19 serving; Amber Sorenson 5 kills; and Amber Ideker 2 kills, 7 digs;

Next: The Warriors traveled to Chatfield Tuesday, Oct. 2 and will host Lewiston-Altura Thursday, Oct. 4. There are only two weeks of regularly scheduled games before tournaments. Caledonia travels to St. Charles Tuesday, Oct. 9 and will be home against Rushford-Peterson Tuesday, Oct. 16.
