The Caledonia boys soccer team evened their record last week at 2-2-2, when they picked up their first two wins of the young season, and lost once. The boys picked up 2-1 wins over Winona on Sept. 4 and Lake City on Sept. 8. Sandwiched in between was a 2-1 loss at Byron on Sept. 6.

CHS 2 WHS 1

The Warrior boys had two firsts with their game against Winona High on Sept. 4. After going 0-1-2 with two 0-0 ties and a 1-0 loss, the CHS offense scored for the first time this season and the team picked up its first win.

Jordan Becker scored the first goal of the season for the Warriors 35 minutes into the first half. Becker scored the goal on a penalty kick. Winona returned the favor, as they tied the game at 1-1 with a penalty kick several minutes later. The game was tied 1-1 as the first half came to a close.

Collin Klug scored the winning goal at the 28 minute mark of the second half. Brad Hesse had the assist.

"Winona wanted to win this game and they threw everything at us during the final minutes of the game," Warrior coach Tom Krinke noted. "Our defense played well in preserving the win. Isaac Schiltz did another excellent job in the nets. He had 18 saves.

"Winona is a very good team and a AA school," Krinke continued. "This was a good win for us."

BHS 2 CHS 1

The Warrior boys had a let down two days later when they traveled to Byron and returned home with a disappointing 2-1 loss.

"The kids were really up after beating Winona and we really didnít play quite as well against Byron," Krinke noted.

The Bears scored first at the 12:40 mark of the first period. CHS tied the game up in the second half on a kick by Collin Klug. The Bears were able to slip one past Schiltz late in the second half with less than two minutes left, for the 2-1 win.

"Byron has a good squad and a good coach," Krinke said. They out-shot us 14-11. They havenít beaten us in a long time. So this was a big win for them. They were really pumped."

CHS 2 Lake City 1

The Warriors picked up their second win of the season on Sept. 8 when they traveled to Lake City and returned with a 2-1 win.

Collin Klug scored the first goal of the game with an assist by foreign exchange student Maros Zelenak of Slovakia. Jodan Becker made it 2-0 on a penalty kick with 34 minutes left in the second half.

Lake City scored its only goal of the game with about two minutes remaining in the second half.

The Warriors controlled the game, as they outshot the host team 19-2.

"We played well in the Lake City game and it was good to have our two foreign exchange students playing with us," Krinke said. "Maros Zelenak and Alex Castanheira (of Brazil) are both welcome additions to our team. They did not become eligible until the Lake City game. Both have been playing soccer for many years. With Jordan Schuldt out indefinitely with a torn quadricep and Jackson Huus day-to-day with a knee injury from last year, the addition of these two kids is a big boost for us. They are both quality players, get along with the rest of the kids real well and are a blessing."

The Warriors have another busy week, as they traveled to Winona Cotter Monday, Sept. 10 and will host La Crescent Sept. 13.
