The Caledonia boys soccer team played one of the best games of the season on September 10 when they bested a very good Winona Cotter team 2-0. Unfortunately, three days later, they played one of their worst games of the season, losing to a good La Crescent team 2-1.
"It was an up and down week for us," coach Tom Krinke said. "The kids looked so good against Cotter, and we played so flat against La Crescent. Right now, weíre playing .500 soccer. Weíre an average team. I thought at this point in the season, we would be playing better."
Warriors 2 Ramblers 0
The combination of Jordan Becker to Colin Gluch produced the first goal for CHS in the 2-0 win over Cotter. The Warriors scored at the nine minute mark of the first half.
The Warrior defense once again played a very good game, controlling the tempo, and keeping the Ramblers away from the CHS net.
Gluch scored his second goal of the night and fifth goal of the season when Ryan Cody found the junior midfielder open on a long pass. Gluch pounded the ball through with three minutes left in the second half.
"I was so pleased with our game against Cotter,"í Krinke said. "We shut down a very good team. We controlled the game from beginning to end. This was by far, our best game of the season."
Isaac Schiltz had another good game in the nets, as he recorded his third shutout in eight games. The Warriors outshot the Ramblers 22-18.
Lancers 2 Warriors 1
Last Thursday the Warriors hosted a very tough La Crescent team, and lost a disappointing 2-1 game.
The host team scored first blood when Gluch scored off a pass from Becker nine minutes into the contest.
The Lancers tied the game 1-1 at the 33 minute mark of the first half, and the two teams went into the halftime intermission tied.
The Lancers scored the winning goal 21 minutes into the second half and the Warriors just couldnít get the tying goal into the net.
"We played La Crescent fairly well in the first half, but they took it to us in the second half," Krinke said. "They just plain out-played us in the second half. We had some good chances in the second half to tie the game up, but just didnít get the job done."
The Warriors actually had one more shot on goal, 17-16.
This week
The Warriors take a 3-3-2 record on the road this week, taking on Plainview-Elgin-Millville Tuesday, Sept. 18 and Stewartville Thursday, Sept. 20.
PEM beat La Crescent, so they must be a pretty good team," Krinke said. "I donít know much about Stewartville, but they do play in a good conference."
Krinke reported midfielder Craig Loeffler injured his hip in the La Crescent game and will be out a minimum of two to three weeks. But junior midfielder Jordan Schuldt will be back in action this week.
