The Caledonia football team remained perfect with a 26-12 win over visiting Dover-Eyota Friday night. The Eagles and Warriors both came into the game with 2-0 records. In their loss, D-E was able to do something the two previous CHS opponents were not able to do - score any points. In their first three games, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 102-12.
Zach Gran led the Warrior offensive attack, scoring two TDs on the ground, and pulling in one pass for a third score.
The Warriors got on the board first, as Gran romped 32 yards for his first touchdown of the night. Ryan Goetzingerís extra point kick made it 7-0.
The Eagles fought back with a long drive that was capped off with a two-yard TD run by Bill Martini. The kick failed and the CHS lead was 7-6.
The Warriors moved the ball down the field late in the first quarter, but the drive stalled. Goetzinger came in and booted a 37-yard field goal to put the Warriors up 10-6, as the first period came to a close.
Gran picked up where heíd left off in the first period, as he broke lose and dashed 34 yards for his second touch of the night. Goetzingerís kick was good and the Warrior lead was 17-6.
The Warrior defense played an excellent game, limiting the Eagles to 158 total yards of offense. After pushing D-E back deep in their own end of the field, the CHS defense forced an Eagle punt. The center snap on the punt sailed over the punterís head and a host of Warrior defenders pounced on the ball for a safety. CHS went into the halftime intermission with a 19-6 lead.
The host team made it 25-6 in the third period when Gran pulled in a 33 yard pass from Warrior QB Kody Moore. Goetzinger, who was perfect on the night, split the uprights for the extra point, pushing the Warrior lead to 26-6.
D-E scored in the fourth quarter on a three-yard pass play from Matt Biehn to Aaron Daniels. The two-point conversion failed and the Warriors had a 26-12 win.
CHS picked up 158 yards on the ground, with Gran rushing for 137 yards on 20 carries, including two TDs. Cody Petersen carried the ball four times for seven yards, Kody Moore had five yards on three carries, Dustin King had one carry for five yards and Pat Bolduan had four yards on one carry.
Kody Moore connected on nine of 14 passes for 146 yards and one TD. Andy Bauer had four receptions for 89 yards, Dustin King had four catches for 24 yards and Gran had one catch for 33 yards and a TD.
Besides kicking a field goal and three extra points, Goetzinger also had three punts for 89 yards. Gran had three punt returns for 23 yards, Andy Bauer had one punt return for 20 yards and Dan Muenkel returned one punt for six yards.
Defensively, Eddie Hodges had two sacks, Mitch Meiners had one and Andy Bauer had an interception.
The Warriors racked up 158 yards on the ground, passed for 146, for 304 yards of offense. The defense held the Eagles to 116 yards rushing and 42 yards passing for a 158-yard total.
The Warriors, ranked 7th in the latest State Coaches Poll, begin Three Rivers Conference South play this Friday night when they travel to Spring Valley to take on the 0-3 Knights.
