"The girls played very hard and kept the heat on all night," said coach Scott Koepke. "We hit .242 as a team which is our best this year.

"Cassie Gran, our setter, has been working very hard this year and she had quite a night. Her sets were very consistent and were right where they needed to be. This was her best match she has had, 33 set assists in three games which is very good.

"This was a very big conference match for us," said Koepke. "FC was coming off of wins against St. Charles and Chatfield and was a team everyone in the conference was looking at. To go to FC and come out on top was really great for our team.

"The girls played so hard and talked and fought and really showed they wanted this one. At one time we were down like 2-8 in the third game and werenít talking. I challenged them to come out and talk and they did it, coming back to win 25-23.

"I was very proud of the way they competed and hung tough throughout the whole match. Even in the fourth game when F-C was really playing great volleyball we competed.

"Jenna Schmitz had a great night serving for us including some huge serves in the fifth game. 16 for 16 with 4 aces; two in the fifth is just clutch and so big. Cassie again played well and we had several girls have great nights at the net. Alecia led us with 27 digs and Libby and Amber Ideker had 23.

"We held Chelsea Nagle in check pretty well. The girls played great defense against some very good hitters. Megan led us with 5 aces and Jenna had 4."

Waukon Tournament

Caledonia 5-0

Caledonia played in the Waukon tournament on Saturday, Sept. 15, defending their status there by winning the championship. Coach Koepke said that the girls did a nice job competing in pool play and again played hard. "Amber Ideker hit .555 in pool play which is excellent," said Koepke.

"In the tournament (semis and final) we hit .294 as a team which is very good. Libby Augedahl led us at .344; Alecia Fruechte hit .333 (leading us in kills for the day with 29), and Amber Ideker hit .312. Great numbers. Amber led the hitters for the whole day hitting .400 for the tournament with Alecia hitting .315.

"Cassie actually led everyone hitting .451 from her setting position. Cassie really attacked the ball well at the net and is becoming a real threat that teams are going to have to account for.

"We played Waukon in the championship and Waukon handled Crestwood a lot easier than we did so we knew it was going to be a battle. Our girls played some of the most incredible defense I have seen yet. There were at least three balls that were gone that we brought back and sent over, just amazing. The girls passed very well in the tournament which helped get our offense going.

"The girls again worked so hard and competed so well. Iím am very proud of how we took it right at them and kept it up till the very last play.

"For the day Jenna again served great. She was 27 of 27. Lindsey Gran was 17 of 18 serving with one ace and Aly Meyer led us with 5 aces. Cassie Gran, who was 38 of 40, and Alecia both had 4 aces. Our record now is 12-3, 2-1 in the conference."

Cassie Gran 77 set assists, 16 kills, 20 digs, 3 ace blocks, 4 ace serves, 38 for 40 serving; Alecia Fruechte 29 kills, 2 digs, 2 set assists, 2 ace blocks, 4 ace serves, 39 for 44 serving; Megan King 20 kills, 22 digs, 7 ace blocks, 1 set assist, 2 ace serves, 38 for 41 serving; Libby Augedahl 19 kills, 23 digs, 2 ace blocks, 4 set assists; Amber Ideker, 13 kills, 13 digs; Amber Sorenson 10 kills, 2 digs, 3 ace blocks, 1 set assist; Jenna Schmitz 4 digs, 27 for 27 serving; Aly Meyer, 6 kills, 8 digs, 1 ace block, 5 ace serves; Lindsey Gran 5 digs, 1 ace serve, 17 or 18 serving; Laquita Becker 8 digs.
