Heather Deters Bivona

Heather Deters Bivona, died Friday, September 21, 2007 at Stamford Hospital, Stamford, Conn. of complications from a massive stroke.

She was born April 25, 1977 in Caledonia and attended Spring Grove High School. She graduated from Gale Ettrick Trempealeau High School in Galesville, Wis. and joined the Marine Corps in 1996. She entered Military Working Dog training for the Marine Corps.Heather was deployed to Puerto Rico where she worked with U.S. Customs drug interdiction teams. She served with the Second Military Police Battalion K-9 Section as Kennel Master where she deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, followed by Camp Fox, Kuwait in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom I. Heather served the United States Marine Corps honorably for more than 9 years.

Heather graduated from Norwalk Community College, with a degree in exercise science in 2007. She was employed in Stamford, Conn. as a personal trainer.

She is survived by her husband, Greg Bivona of Stamford; mother and father, Mary and Rod Amundson of Spring Grove; father and mother Dennis and Tatiana Deters of Spring Grove; mother-in-law, Theresa Bivona of Stamford; grandmothers, Alice Deters and Esther Fruechte; siblings, Richard Deters of Arden Hills, Minn.; Douglas (Jenn) Deters of Wasilla, Alaska; Daniel Deters of Moundsview, Minn.; Friedrich Deters of Goldsboro, N.C.; Franz Deters of Anchorage, Alaska; Alexander Deters of Spring Grove; and Christelle Amundson of Winona.

She is predeceased by grandfathers, Lloyd Deters and Raymond Fruechte.

Friends called at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory in Stamford, on Monday, Sept. 24, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenwich, with Pastor Ron Erbe officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Judeís Childrenís Research Hospital.
