What started out as a tight game, turned into a runaway Friday night in Caledonia, when the Warriors scored 26 points in the second period in route to a 36-0 whitewashing of always tough Plainview-Elgin-Millville. It was the season opener for both teams.
Both the Warrior offense and defense had excellent performances. The offense racked up 383 total yards, while the defense held the Bulldogs to just 56 total yards, forced three turnovers and recorded seven sacks.
Leading 3-0 at the end of the opening verse, thanks to a Ryan Goetzinger field goal, the CHS scored two TDs through the air and two more on the ground for a 29-0 halftime lead. Warrior QB Kody Moore completed seven of 10 passes for 192 yards, including two TD passes to Andy Bauer. Bauer finished the night with three receptions for 102 yards and two scores.
Cody Pedersen broke free for a 47-yard scoring romp in the second period and had eight carries for 69 yards.
Zach Gran scored two rushing TDs, and led the Warrior ground game with 71 yards on 19 carries.
Others figuring in on the offense were Alex Schleich with five carries for 37 yards, Andy Bauer one carry for eight yards, Dustin King with one carry for five yards, and two receptions for 65 yards, Kevin Voight with one catch for 14 yards, and Pat Bolduan with one catch for 11 yards.
The Warriors offense produced some balanced numbers, as the ground game generated 191 yards and the passing game netted 192 yards.
The Warrior defense proved to be very stingy, as they gave up just 26 rushing yards and 30 passing yards.
Junior defensive end Eddie Hodges led the Warriors with four sacks. Dustin King added two sacks, and Mitch Meiners had one. Andy Bauer and Ryan Goetzinger each picked off a PEM pass and Zach Gran had a fumble recovery.
The Warriors controlled the game so well, they were only forced to punt once. The Bulldogs, on the other hand punted seven times. Andy Bauer had three punt returns for 52 yards and Zach Gran had four for 50 yards. Gran returned the only PEM kick-off for 21 yards.
The Warriors will travel to St. Charles this Friday to battle the Saints, who throttled Kingsland 40-0 in Spring Valley last Friday .
