Ray Roble

Arthur Raymond "Ray" Roble, age 80, died Sept. 2, 2007 at his residence in Charleston, S.C.

Ray was born in Wilmington Township, Houston County on Jan. 17, 1927 to Edwin O. Roble and Mandy Johnson Roble. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, a United States Navy World War II Veteran, and a retired electrical engineer with Unisys corporation. While working with Sperry and Unisys, he supported missile navigation systems devlopment and maintenance. He performed field testing of the global positioning system during its development for the U.S. Navy. Ý

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Billie Jean Beal Roble of Charleston; son, Brent Roble, Charleston; two daughters, Karen Roble (Mark) Christenberry, Charleston; Kristi Roble (Kenneth) Crowder, North Augusta, S.C.; six grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest (Signe) Roble, Spring Grove; Burnell (Gloria) Roble, Spring Grove; sister-in-law, Cecelia Roble Vesterse, Spring Grove; and brother-in-law Lester Wiegrefe, Caledonia.

Ray is predeceased by daughter-in-law, Susan Roble; two brothers, Obert L. Roble and Maurice Roble, and sister, Charlotte Roble Wiegrefe.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m at The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Charleston. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, Friday, Sept. 7, from 7 - 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimerís Association or Respite Care Ministries, Saint Matthews Lutheran Church, Charleston, S.C.
