Soul Sister Funk & Fashion Express is open for business in Caledonia
By Clay Schuldt and
Caledonia residents looking for a place to shop, look no further. A new consignment shop is open on Main Street called Soul Sister Funk & Fashion Express.
Soul Sister Funk & Fashion Express is owned and operated by Rita Frank of Caledonia and located at 214 East Main Street (the former Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce building).
Frank originally opened the clothing consignment and gift shop in the former Bubbers Jewelry building in November. Business was brisk, and Frank realized she needed more room. So she moved across the street into the former chamber building during the Christmas holidays.
Customers will have the opportunity to buy and sell items to the store. Name-brand clothing items, arts and crafts can be sold on consignment.
Frank explained that the idea for the new consignment shop came about six months ago.
“With the economy the way it was I wanted to help out Caledonia a little bit,” said Frank. “I felt we needed something for people in our hometown.”
The shop sells name-brand clothing for men, women and children at discount prices. Frank hopes customers will be more inclined to shop locally than drive to La Crosse as residents will be able to buy brands such as American Eagle, Hollister, etc., locally.
The shop is well stocked with clothing, as well as candles, incense, purses, jewelry and crafts, much of which Frank has acquired from Caledonia native Jesse Schultz’ business in La Crosse “Katmandu Trading.”
Frank’s business will also be featuring locally-made handbags, purses, jewelry, crafts and headbands.
Soul Sister Funk & Fashion Express will also be offering spray tanning, which is a much healthier way of looking tan than tanning beds, according to Frank.
Frank installed a spray tanning booth in the back room of the building and will use Celestial Bronze and Focus Organic spray tanning products.
“I’m really excited about the spray tanning,” Frank said. “This is a healthy alternative for persons who want to look tan, but don’t want to use a tanning bed. Persons can call for appointments and we will also offer ‘tanning parties’ for evenings and weekends.”
Frank noted that persons under 18 must have a signed permission slip before she will allow them into the spray tanning booth.
Soul Sister Funk & Fashion Express is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
People looking to bring in clothing or crafts or to schedule a spray tanning are asked to call (507) 459-7365 to make an appointment with Frank.
